Fellas Play Of The Day: O’s (-109) Look To Get Back On Their Offensive Tear

Baltimore is on their 4th consecutive game on the road, where they will be taking on Seattle in game 2 of this series. Baltimore lost last nights matchup 5-3 where Walker was able to out pitch a declining Tillman, and maybe the travel from San Diego to Seattle played a little fatigue factor. Baltimore should be settled in now, and they will be throwing out Kevin Gausman (1-5) 3.92 ERA to face the 31 year old “rookie” in Wade LeBlanc (0-0) 0.00 ERA. Seattle opened as money line favorites at (-109), but Baltimore has since crept to (-111) money line favorites, where 65% of bets are coming in on them.
Gausman has been really up and down this year, he has swing and miss capability and sports a 2.14 BB/9, but has had a problem keeping the ball in the park as he has a 1.43 HR/9. Luckily for him, Seattles park is very pitcher friendly. Seattle’s lineup isn’t going to be a cakewalk, but pitching in the AL East you face lineups like this all the time, so I don’t think it will be eating at Gausman. His ERA is a little high, but he has good defense & bull pen to back him up in this pitcher friendly park.

Wade LeBlanc has bounced around the minors since 2006, not being able to come into his own. He has a career 4.60 FIP in the minors/majors, which is terrible. The guy is 31 and hasn’t been able to outplay young 20 years olds, which is going to be a problem when he has to face one of the best lineups in the MLB.

Baltimore has been a machine on the road ranking 5th in RPG on the road with 4.97, which is slightly better than Seattle’s 4.82 RPG at home. Both teams have good lineups and bullpens, it’s going to come down to which pitcher can give them a quality start, which we feel advantage has to go to Gausman as he has faced this type of lineup all year, while LeBlanc is getting rocked against minor league competition.

Baltimore has gone 7-1 in their last 8, but only 1-5 against Seattle in their last 6 against them. We like the law of averages to play a factor, as Baltimore is the hotter team coming into this one despite losing last nights game. Baltimore has been eating up left handed pitchers this year, where they have gone 13-8 against them. We have to go with the better pitcher and hotter lineup to win game 2 of this series.
